This concept is part of my thesis project.
Tells the story of a young boy who, under the influence of dark sorcery, transforms into a goat-headed monster. Drawing inspiration from ancient sacrifice narratives, I designed an original creature centered on the imagery of the "scapegoat," aiming to reflect themes of twisted fate and moral ambiguity.
In the composition, I have placed the head of the monster below and looking down to the left while the wax figure of the Virgin is looking up to the right with its head held high, this is my way of expressing the ambivalent relationship and conflict between the two thoughts within him. Also the opposition between sin and conscience
Over 2 months of development, I researched for different types of design with the outcome of 60 thumbnails. According to those thumbnails, I chose three of them to create detailed sketch and different function of the creature and got the final decision of the Scapegoat.
The design references Abraham's story in the Bible but I sought another possibility from it. From the perspective of the sacrificed Isaac, he is panicked is desperate and doesn't understand. Therefore the pain and resentment transforms him into a “scapegoat” bound by a moral cross. However, as an innocent and untutored boy, his inner conscience and incomprehension are transformed into a wax statue of the Virgin Mary that breaks out of the cocoon of the monster and weeps at any time.
