Fastival is a street racing game where players will speed through a vibrant, cartoonish carnival, racing past various attractions in each race. During the competition, you can knock down target dummies to trigger unique effects on the track, giving you an advantage. Collect a variety of quirky items to interfere with other racers and enhance your driving skills.
In the Fastival project, on the 2D side, I was responsible for the concept design of NPC Barnaby, the design and color variations of the main character, as well as the game's poster, game icon, and some of the UI design.
In addition to the 2D work, I also created 3D models. I designed the character model for NPC Barnaby, rigged and skinned this character in 3ds Max, and created the texture for it. This character primarily appears as the circus holder and mascot. I also modeled the mole character in the game and created two textures for it.
On another note, I designed three types of scene models. One was the game shop scene, which included two models: the roll-a-ball and the balloon shop. Another was two different fountains. The third was the floor of the plaza inside the game. I textured all five of these models.
Lastly, I created two props used for game mechanics: a bomb balloon and a water balloon.
At the end, I also helped a lot with texture-related work. In this aspect, I was mainly responsible for the textures of the food vendor, a giraffe slide, a fortune-telling table, as well as the ticket and the horse on the carousel in the game. The food vendor has two different shapes and two different materials, making a total of four materials. These textures were all designed based on the theme of our previous small project
Conclusion
Through this project, I gained an understanding of the game development pipeline and became familiar with processes and skills related to concept design and 3D modeling. It also enhanced my collaboration and communication abilities with others. I learned how to better engage in teamwork, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks. I hope to further strengthen my ability to handle emergencies in future projects
